The late model retains the basic appeal of the early model while incorporating several improvements in fashion and practicality, which is a major attraction.

ECWCS (EXTENDED COLD WEATHER CLOTHING SYSTEM) is a layering system for extremely cold climates, officially adopted by the US military in the late 1980s. In addition to the parka, it's a system that allows you to layer synthetic fiber underwear/liners according to the climate of the area of activity, allowing you to adapt to various climates depending on the combination.

Storage includes flap pockets on the left and right, large hidden pockets with Velcro closures next to the zippers, and a utility pocket on the left arm.
The underarms are ventilated, allowing you to adjust your body temperature while wearing it.
Raglan sleeves provide a wide range of motion, and the elbows of the sleeves are reinforced with double layers.

The hood has a brim design and can be adjusted with a drawcord. Snap buttons are placed around the hood to attach acrylic fur.
The cuffs are adjustable with Velcro, and the front placket has loops with snap button closures for attaching rank insignia. Detailed features include a powder guard inside the waist to prevent wind and snow from entering, and a drawcord.
